Mel Leon (she/they) is a Toronto-based actor, writer, and co-founder of Glitter Theory Media. Mel has spent over a decade performing in indie and classical theatre, cultivating a deep love for language, physical storytelling, and all things gloriously non-linear.
Their move behind the scenes was sparked by a desire to create the kinds of stories they weren’t seeing on screen; queer, polyamorous, sex-positive narratives told with nuance and curiosity. Mel’s creative work is drawn to the emotional; the messy, muddy bits that make humans extraoridnary. Those gritty moments of humanity paired with moments of magic we can’t explain- that’s their creative sweet spot.
They are eager to develop more original work for film and television that blurs boundaries, embraces complexity, and reimagines what visibility can look like.
